It is with regret that we notify you that the John & Linda Shelk Foundation, Inc. is transitioning its mission from pro-active gifting to traditional gifting. As a consequence, Kristi Steber’s position with the foundation will be eliminated effective April 30, 2021. The foundation thanks Kristi for the many years of excellent work with the foundation’s mission to assist nonprofits in Crook, Grant and Wheeler counties and the work to connect those nonprofits to Oregon foundations for grants. We are very proud of her accomplishments.

Moving forward, the foundation will manage our gifting through the Oregon Community Foundation.

Select Books from The Ford Family Foundation

For many years The Ford Family Foundation has been curating a selection of books for rural Oregonians to help us learn to make a difference in our communities, our families and our personal growth.

The books are offered at no charge. Ford only requests that after reading a book, you provide them a review with comments about what you have read.

The list of books is constantly changing to keep current with interests and issues. Books are loosely classified into six topics: Children, Education, Arts, Engagement, Economy, and Community. Some books are classics. Others are hot off the press. Many are available in audio and kindle formats, and in Spanish as well as English.

A good selection of books focus on nonprofit leadership, governance, budgeting, financials, and fundraising, including Bookkeeping Basics; Andy Robinson’s How to Raise $500 to $5000 from Almost Anyone; and The Budget-Building Book for Nonprofits.

The Abacus Project is a three-book bundle to give families and caregivers playful activities to find math in everyday routines for children from birth to kindergarten. Malcolm Gladwell’s new book, Talking to Strangers, is on the list as well as my personal favorite, The Purpose of Boys.

Go to The Ford Family Foundation Select Books to browse the selection and register to order. The hardest part is choosing. Only one book can be ordered at a time.
